Andrew 'Drew' Gray was born in Kingston Jamaica. Having five sisters and being the only male (the youngest), he often created his own role of manhood to escape the level of oestrogen in the household. Art and music was his outlet.
Drew’s foresight began at an early age. He would tell you that he is an artiste in every true shape, form and fashion. Once plugged into, he creates great energy and electrifying displays either as a performing artiste or a fine artiste. His love for the Arts not only led him to study photography and graphic design at the Edna Manley College for the Visual Art, (Kingston, Jamaica), but he also had the need to convey and share his knowledge.
This need led him to teach art and music at the Sts. Peter and Paul Preparatory School on Old Hope Road in Kingston, Jamaica while working part time as a Graphic designer and Illustrator at The Public Relations and Operation (PRO) Ltd., under the management of Gene Lowrey Chin. He was identified with the CHILL character that was a part of the logo and the weekly design for the cover of this insert; that would accompany the Daily Star once every week.
In Jamaica he worked as a Lithographic Stripper prepping films and burning plates for offset printers and presses such as AB-Dicks, Heidelberg and Davidsons. This was never his only role. His experiences also included; paste-up artist, dark room technician, plate burner for multi-colour projects, desktop publisher, flexographic mounted proofer, and ever so often photographer; gave him that overall knowledge that allowed him to surpass co-workers and competition at such a young age.
Drew studied Multimedia at The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago where shortly after graduating; interned at Porter Novelli, a well-known marketing agency as a graphic designer.
After his internship he worked as the Art Director for W.M. Potter and Associates, an urban marketing agency in the Chicago loop. His experiences included more than five major accounts; - Chicago Park District, Bud Billiken Float, African Festival of Art, Real Men Real Cook and Chicago Tribune.
He relocated to his present St. Louis area, and worked as the Layout Editor for The River Front Times (RFT) before he moved back into the classroom to teach while going to school at Sanford Brown College, studying IT Management and Network Administration - BA.
Drew's eagerness to learn, once again landed him an MA. Ed. K-12 Art with add on in Special Education with a concentration in Autism research. He is hoping to use art and multi-media as tools in helping individuals on that spectrum.
